Vishwa Mohan Bansal is the Chairman of the country’s premier MBA school New Delhi Institute of Management. He has been a senior civil servant and served Govt. of India, the Governments of Punjab and Delhi, and headed several public sector undertakings and the Industry for 43 years at the highest levels. He has been the Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi at the time of the Common Wealth Games, having earlier handled the HR & IR functions at Asian Games in 1982.

He has been the youngest and the longest-serving Secretary & Principal Commissioner of DDA (Govt. of India) for 17 years, which is unprecedented and unique recognition. He has headed the lands & infrastructure department at all the 4 international airports of India and has been the CEO of all 3 Interstate Bus Terminuses of Delhi. He is credited with the expansion of Indira Gandhi International Airport by shifting & relocating Nangal Dewat village to Vasant Kunj, without which the new terminals at IGIA were stuck up for decades. He cleared heavy encroachments by renowned hoteliers and by notorious land mafias at Bombay airport, and successfully handled nationwide strikes of transport workers in Punjab and Slums & Jhuggi Jhompri Resettlement Unions of Delhi. He is remembered for taking over the famous Kali Temple of Patiala from the age-old Mahants at the age of 24 years and was the Special Magistrate for entire Punjab at the age of 28. He is the only Magistrate in India, a signatory to maximum hangings at the early age of 25.

As Chairman of the New Delhi Institute of Management, he heads a high-powered Board comprising 2 Padma Vibhushan, one Padma Bhushan, and 3 Padma Shri Awardees. His Board also has 7 former – Chief Secretaries & Secretaries Govt. of India including Chief Election Commissioner of India, Chairman of UPSC, Advisor & Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. of India. Member of Parliament & former Union Minister Mr.  Suresh Prabhu, a former Judge of Supreme Court, and a serving Additional Solicitor General of India are also part of the Board headed by Mr. Bansal.

He has led a number of Govt. of India delegations to more than 15 countries and presented papers at UN Organizations; Asia Pacific Organization, Tokyo; Royal Institute of Public Administration, London; International Civil Aviation Organization, Montreal; Administrative Staff College of India, ICA, and forums of CII, ASSOCHAM, PHDCCI, FICCI. He has advised several State Govts. and Ministries of the Central Govt. on urban management & planning.

Mr. Bansal has been recognized as the change agent for launching several bold initiatives in highly sensitive public organizations in his long career. He was nationally acclaimed by the Chief Information Commissioner of India for setting up the most transparent and the biggest RTI network in India DDA, and he was the only officer in India called upon by the CIC to address all the Information Commissioners of all the States and Union Territories of the Country at their first annual convention at Vigyan Bhawan in 2009.

He has been part of every high-level Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Parliamentary Committee, and the Delhi Assembly Committees on Urban Infrastructure for 17 years, and has been a distinguished part of all the Master Plans and Zonal Plans of Delhi for 30 years. He was selected to be the first senior-most appointee of the Delhi Metro in 1996 even before the famous Sridharan.

In the country’s education sector, he has led in plugging “Industry-Academia” gaps in higher education for better employment & entrepreneurial opportunities for everyone. For the first time under his leadership, any MBA school (New Delhi Institute of Management) has been declared the Mentor Business School for the entire country by the Govt. of India and the Confederation of Indian Industry. His extraordinary initiatives on connecting industry with academia have resulted in NDIM being the 1st ever B-school of India, rated Best simultaneously by all the apex national industry chambers of the country-FICCI, ASSOCHAM, CII, in addition to the AICTE, Govt. of India, for ‘Finest Employment Opportunities & Best Industry Linkages’ out of 10000 plus AICTE approved institutions of higher learning in the country. 

Mr. Bansal is also credited with very meaningful inputs to the New Education Policy and has been specially mentioned in the recommendations of the Kasturirangan Committee. He is one of the only 3 members picked up from non-government institutions to represent the education sector at the National Steering Committee on Internships of the AICTE, Govt. of India, and one of the only 2 non-governmental educationists nominated by the Govt. as an expert on leadership modules for senior professors of higher education institutions across the country being prepared at the NITTT.

Mr. Bansal is the 2015 recipient of the Life Time Achievement Award for his exemplary contribution to the education sector by the CEGR, leading research & policy Think Tank in the field of education, policy & research. He is a special invitee to the Committees on Higher Education of both FICCI and CII and has been the Chairman & Co-Chairman of PHDCCI Committee on Education for 4 years. He is on the Executive Boards of the Delhi Management Association, Kiwanis Club of India, and the India Republic of Korea Friendship Society. Mr. Bansal is the President of the alumni associations of 57-year-old NIT Kurukshetra and the 60-year-old Sainik School Rewa. He is B.Tech from NIT Kurukshetra, is a Law graduate, an MBA, and holds a Diploma in Journalism. He is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from KEISEI International University, South Korea.
